Westminster College Professor Named as Fulbright Scholar

NEW WILMINGTON, Pa. - Dr. Camila Bari de López, Westminster College associate professor of Spanish, earned a Fulbright Visiting Scholar grant for the 2013-2014 academic year.

Bari de López received the grant from the J. William Fulbright Scholarship Board to spend the fall semester in Chile teaching and doing research at the Universidad Adolfo Ibanez in Viña del Mar.

Bari de López teaches courses on Latin American culture, literature and on the Spanish language at Westminster College. Her main research interest is on the Andean cultures and on historical novels dealing with the history and interethnic relationships in Latin American society. She has presented and published articles on urban-social structure and identity in Latin American literature.

Bari de López, who joined the Westminster faculty in 1997, earned an undergraduate degree from Universidad Nacional de Cuyo, Argentina, and Ph.D. from the University at Albany, SUNY.

The Fulbright Program, established in 1946 under legislation introduced by Sen. J. William Fulbright of Arkansas, is administered by the Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs of the U.S. Department of State.  It is designed to increase mutual understanding between the people of the U.S. and those of other countries.
