NEW WILMINGTON, Pa. - The Westminster College Student Philanthropy Program will host G.I.V.E. Day Thursday, Feb. 14, from 3-6 p.m. in the Witherspoon Rooms of McKelvey Campus Center.
What students and their families pay to attend Westminster covers about 70 percent of the actual cost. A significant portion of the balance is covered by contributions to The Westminster Fund from generous alumni and friends.
G.I.V.E. Day (Give. Involve. Value. Engage.), also known as "Tuition Freedom Day," is the day of the year when tuition coverage ends and giving from alumni and friends covers the remainder of the cost. Students will be encouraged to:
The event is coordinated by the Office of Institutional Advancement as part of GIVE Westminster (The student philanthropy program at Westminster College) and includes a number of activities:
Students will have the opportunity to sign their class banner, take photo booth pictures with friends, and enjoy music, food, and giveaways.
"Our goal is to engage the entire campus community in the education and encouragement of students in the development of attitudes of philanthropic awareness and service through the investment of time, talent, and financial resources," said Kelli McKee, director of the Westminster Fund. "We hope to create a culture and community of pride, loyalty, and philanthropy among current Westminster students that strengthens, deepens, and intensifies as they transition to the ranks of Westminster alumni."
