Two Westminster College seniors and two staff members from Westminster's Drinko Center for Excellence in Teaching and Learning attended the "Best in Class" Student Engagement Conference Oct. 21-22 in Harrisburg.
Political science major Katie Moga and psychology major Erica Szewczyk were accompanied by Dr. Patrick Krantz, Drinko Center director, and Katie Gray, a 2011 Westminster graduate who serves as Pennsylvania Campus Compact Volunteer in Service to America (PACC*VISTA) and helps coordinate service opportunities through the Drinko Center.
Moga attended as a recipient of a Newman Civic Fellowship, an award that recognizes college student leaders who demonstrate an investment in finding solutions for challenges facing communities throughout the country. Moga is a daughter of Timothy and Pamela Moga of Ashtabula, Ohio, and a graduate of Edgewood High School.
Szewczyk is service chair for Westminster's Student Government Association. She is a daughter of Jim and Sheila Szewczyk of Bethel Park and a graduate of Bethel Park High School.
The conference included about 150 participants and covered the "7 Cs of the Social Change Model for Student Leadership Development" through learning sessions and workshops. Attendees learned how the 7 Cs - consciousness of self, congruence, commitment, collaboration, common purpose, controversy of civility, and citizenship - can be implemented on their respective campuses and in their lives.
The conference was presented by PACC with support from the Jenzabar Foundation, PennSERVE, and the Corporation for National and Community Service.
