Men's and Women's Choruses to Present Fall Concert

The Westminster College Men's Chorus and Women's Chorus will present their fall concert Sunday, Nov. 6, at 3 p.m. in Wallace Memorial Chapel.  The event is free and open to the public.

The Women's Chorus will open the program with Nina Gilbert's arrangement of "Artsa Alinu," an Israeli pioneer song; David Childs' "Song of Ruth," based on Ruth 1:16-17; David Bigler's arrangement of "Where Can I Turn for Peace?"; "Adoramus te" by Johannes Brahms; "Wondrous Love" arranged by Betty Bertaux; Stephen Hatfield's arrangement of "Bonny Wood Green," a traditional Irish ballad; and Westminster adjunct music faculty Jeffrey Wachter's arrangement of "Blues in the Night," featuring soloist Rayna Brooks and Westminster adjunct music faculty Jeff Bremer on bass, PJ Gatch on percussion, and Wachter on piano.

Anthony Pezzelle accompanies the Women's Chorus.

Selections for the men's portion of the program are: Sidumo Nyamezele's arrangement of "Bawo Thixo Somandla" ("Father, God Almighty"); "Bonnie Mary of Argyle" arranged by Ken Berg; Thomas Matthews' "The Lord is My Shepherd," featuring bass soloist Andrew Fritz and tenor soloist Gregory McClelland; Jacob Handl's "Confirma Hoc, Deus," based on Psalms 68:28-29; Norman Luboff's arrangement of "Streets of Laredo," a cowboy folk song featuring tenor soloist Kevin Tomb; Alice Parker and Robert Shaw's arrangement of "What Shall We Do with a Drunken Sailor?," an English sea shanty; and Stephen Hatfield's arrangement of "Heaven Somewhere," an African American spiritual.

Wachter is accompanist for the Men's Chorus.

Both choirs are under the direction of Dr. Robin Lind, associate professor and director of choral activities, with assistance from Westminster adjunct music faculty William Ambert.

Lind, who has been with Westminster since 2000, earned an undergraduate degree from the College of Idaho, master's degree from the University of Oregon, and Ph.D. from the University of Utah.
