Psychology Department to Host Colloquium Oct. 17

Posted on Tuesday, October 11, 2011

Westminster College's Department of Psychology will host Dr. Carey Ryan for a colloquium Monday, Oct. 17, at 5 p.m. in the Witherspoon Rooms of McKelvey Campus Center.  The program is free and open to the public.

Ryan, a psychology professor at the University of Nebraska at Omaha, will present "Multicultural, Colorblind, and Assimilation Interethnic Ideologies," her research that relates cultural orientation, stereotyping, and intergroup biases among Latinos, non-Latino whites, and blacks.

She will address how people approach different cultures and ethnic groups through multicultural, colorblind, or assimilationist perspectives and how these perspectives influence attitudes about cultures we belong to and those we don't.

An opportunity for questions will follow the talk.
