The Westminster College Department of Chemistry will host Dr. Susan Olesik for the fourth annual Ken and Nancy Long Chemistry Lecture Tuesday, Oct. 18, at 7:30 p.m. in the Sebastian Mueller Theater of the McKelvey Campus Center. The event is free and open to the public.
Olesik's presentation, "Personalized Medicine through the Development of Nanobiomedical Devices," will discuss the future of personalized medicine and describe some of the contributions of Ohio State University's Center for Affordable Nanoengineering of Polymeric Biomedical Devices (CANPBD) toward impacting the detection and treatment of cancer.
Olesik earned undergraduate degrees from Vincennes University and DePauw University and Ph.D. from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. She is the Dow professor and chair of Ohio State University's Department of Chemistry; director of the Ohio House of Science and Engineering, a science outreach center; and deputy director of CANPBD. She has been recognized for her work through many awards, most recently as the recipient of Ohio State University's 2010 Building Bridges Excellence Award.
The lecture series is funded by Dr. Ken Long, Westminster professor of chemistry emeritus, and his wife, Nancy, to invite outstanding chemists to speak to Westminster students.
