Theatre Westminster to Present "Born Yesterday"

Posted on Wednesday, September 28, 2011

Theatre Westminster will present Garson Kanin's Born Yesterday Oct. 13-16 in Beeghly Theater.

In the 1946 classic comedy, tycoon Harry Brock has come to Washington with his beautiful, but not too bright, mistress, Billie Dawn, to buy a senator.  To reduce Billie's tendency toward social gaffes, Harry hires reporter Paul Verall to educate Billie about Washington, but Harry gets more than he bargained for when Paul teaches Billie about democracy and how our government is supposed to work.

Curtain time Thursday-Saturday is 7:30 p.m.; Sunday's matinee is at 2:30 p.m.  Reservations can be made online by following the "ticket reserve" link or by calling the Box Office at (724) 946-7241.  Prices for general admission adults are $10, and senior citizens and non-Westminster students are $7.

The student production is under the direction of Dr. Scott Mackenzie, Westminster associate professor of theatre.  He is a certified associate teacher of Fitzmaurice Voicework who has acting experience in film, television, and theatre and has directed over 30 productions.  Mackenzie co-wrote, produced, and directed Out of the Fire: Voices of the Holocaust for the Hoyt Institute of Fine Arts.  While on active duty with the United States Army Reserve, he directed Bigfoot Stole My Wife, the first show produced entirely by military and civilian personnel stationed in Baghdad's International Zone.

Set, light, and costume design is under the direction of Terry Jachimiak, Westminster assistant professor of theatre, and technical director is Paula Ferguson, Beeghly/Orr stage manager.
