Group to Discuss Service-Learning at Faires Faculty Forum

Ten Westminster College faculty will present "A Cross-Disciplinary Examination of Service-Learning at Westminster College: Five Years of Best Practices" at Faires Faculty Forum Wednesday, Sept. 7, at 11:40 a.m. in the Sebastian Mueller Theater of the McKelvey Campus Center.

Service-learning is an educational method that integrates a service component into the course curriculum and allows students to reflect on shared experiences as they grasp real-life situations in their field of study and meet community needs through service.

Coordinated by Dr. Patrick Krantz, director of Westminster's Drinko Center for Excellence in Teaching and Learning, faculty participants include:  Dr. Helen Boylan , associate professor of chemistry; Dr. Amy Camardese, associate professor and chair of Westminster's Department of Education; Dr. Terri Lenox, associate professor and chair of Westm inster's Department of Mathematics and Computer Science; Dr. Scott Mackenzie, associate professor of theatre; Dr. Eileen Morelli, associate professor of education; Delores Natale, public relations lecturer; Dr. Kristin Park, professor and chair of Westminster's Department of Sociology and Criminal Justice Studies; Dr. Sherri Pataki, assistant professor of psychology; Dr. Katherine Robertson, associate professor of biology; and Dr. Kristenne Robison, assistant professor of sociology.

Faculty Forum was established in 1990 by Dr. Barbara Faires, Westminster professor of mathematics emerita, during her term as Dean of the College and Vice President for Academic Affairs.  Faculty members from all disciplines volunteer to present lectures on their current research, artistic productions, and/or scholarship of teaching and learning.  Each forum presents new ideas with innovative lecture techniques.
