Religion Professor to Speak on Middle East at Faculty Forum

Posted on Wednesday, February 9, 2011

Dr. Kang-Yup Na, Westminster College associate professor of religion, will speak at Faires Faculty Forum Wednesday, Feb. 16, at 11:40 a.m. in the Sebastian Mueller Theater of the McKelvey Campus Center.

In his presentation, "Crossing Borders: Ethno-Religious Identity Politics in the Middle East," Na will share insights gained from his biblical research and experiences in Israel and Jordan last June as the recipient of Westminster's Center of International Educational Exchange travel award.  His meetings with representatives of institutions in both countries included U.S. diplomats in Amman and Jerusalem, former prime ministers of Jordan, and the current Israeli ambassador to Jordan.

Faculty Forum was established in 1990 by Dr. Barbara Faires, Westminster professor of mathematics emerita, during her term as Dean of the College and Vice President for Academic Affairs.  Faculty members from all disciplines volunteer to present lectures on their current research, artistic productions, and/or scholarship of teaching and learning.  Each forum presents new ideas with innovative lecture techniques.

Contact Na at (724) 946-7155 or e-mail nak@westminster.edu for additional information.
