Westminster Offers Variety of Continuing Education Courses

Westminster College announces several winter and spring personal enrichment and leisure courses for community residents covering interests ranging from understanding basketball to Arabic language and culture.

Continuing Education classes and seminars are non-credit and are open to all interested individuals. Formal admission to Westminster College is not required. Fourteen personal enrichment classes are included this semester:

Arabic Language and Culture is offered Mondays and Wednesdays, March 28 and 30, and April 4 and 6 from 7-8:30 p.m. in room 253 of the McKelvey Campus Center.

Between the Lines will intertwine text and the written word in visual art.  It is offered on Tuesdays, Feb. 22 and March 1, from 6:30-8:30 p.m. in room 206 of the Hoyt Science Resources Center.

Book-Binding teaches how to make a book from recycled and re-appropriated materials on Monday and Wednesday, March 28 and 30, from 6:30-8:30 p.m. in room 206 of the Hoyt Science Resources Center.

Chickenscratch to Calligraphy is Feb. 23-24 from 6-9 p.m. in room 206 of the Hoyt Science Resources Center.

Get Caught up in the Madness is designed for those seeking to better understand basketball and is offered on Tuesdays, March 1 and 8, from 7-8 p.m.

Glass Painting/Grapes will be offered Monday, Feb. 21, from 5:30-9 p.m. in room 206 of the Hoyt Science Resources Center.

Glass Painting/Snowflakes, Primitive Snowmen, Pine Branches is scheduled for Monday, Feb. 28, from 5:30-9 p.m. in room 206 of the Hoyt Science Resources Center.

Oil Pastels in Nature is offered on Wednesday and Thursday, April 27 and 28, from 5:30-8:30 p.m. in room 206 of the Hoyt Science Resources Center.

Painting - Flowers, Pansies & Leaves is Monday, May 23, from 5:30-8:30 p.m. in room 206 of the Hoyt Science Resources Center.

Polish Language II is scheduled for Tuesdays, March 15, 22, 29, and April 5, from 6:30-8 p.m. in room 253 of the McKelvey Campus Center.

Raising Readers teaches parents tactics to develop reading habits in their children and is scheduled for Thursdays, March 17 and 24, in room 253 of the McKelvey Campus Center.

Sketchbook/Journal Jumpstart is Monday and Wednesday, March 7 and 9, from 6:30-8:30 p.m. in room 206 of the Hoyt Science Resources Center.

The Not so Still Life - Expand Your Style introduces a variety of painting styles and techniques on Tuesdays and Thursdays, April 5, 7, 12, and 14, from 6:30-8:30 p.m. in room 206 of the Hoyt Science Resources Center.

You Can't Resist Our Wax Resist teaches you how to create unique wearable art on Wednesday and Thursday, March 2-3, from 6-9 p.m. in room 206 of the Hoyt Science Resources Center.

Personal fitness classes include: Zumba Gold; Zumba Fitness; Kickboxing, Strength & Abs all in an hour; Hatha Yoga; Prop-Based Yoga; Kick It Up Cardio; Rubber Band Fitness; and Line Dancing.  Sessions, times, locations, and fees are available at www.westminster.edu/adult.

Computer classes are designed to meet the needs of the beginner to the accomplished user. All computer classes are hands-on workshops and are held in room 214 of Patterson Hall.  Scheduled computer classes are: Getting to Know Your Computer, Microsoft Powerpoint, Microsoft Word 2007, and Microsoft Excel 2007.
