Westminster College will host a Martin Luther King Jr. Community Remembrance and Celebration Breakfast Tuesday, Jan. 18, at 8 a.m. in the Witherspoon Rooms of the McKelvey Campus Center.
Guest speaker will be Judge George "Tookie" James, a 1959 Westminster graduate and judge in the Court of Common Pleas in Beaver County.
Westminster students participating include:
Senior media art major Karli Champ will give the blessing. She is a daughter of Rebecca Hultin and David Champ of Panama, N.Y., and a graduate of Maple Grove High School.
Sophomore psychology major JaQuan Madison will share "What Martin Luther King Jr. Means to Me." He is a son of Patricia Madison of Youngstown, Ohio, and a graduate of East High School.
Senior communication studies major Candace Okello will read an excerpt from Dr. King's "I Have a Dream" speech. She is a daughter of Serafhin and Janice Okello of Youngstown, Ohio, and a graduate of Chaney High School.
Music will be provided by the Westminster College Gospel Choir under the direction of Manny Henderson.
The Rev. James Mohr, Westminster chaplain, and the Rev. Jeannette Hubbard, Westminster director of diversity services, will take part in the event.
The community is invited to attend at a cost of $5 per person, payable at the door. Reservations are required and may be made by calling (724) 946-7116 or (724) 946-7365.
