Westminster College Festival Chorus and Warren Philharmonic Orchestra Present Faure's Requiem

Posted on Thursday, February 10, 2005

The Westminster College Festival Chorus and Warren Philharmonic Orchestra will perform Faure's Requiem Saturday, Feb. 26, at 7:30 p.m. in Orr Auditorium.

"A vibrant and exuberant Beethoven's 8th Symphony will set the stage for Faure's Requiem, with its lush sonorities and ethereal vision of paradise," said Dr. Robin Lind, director of choral activities at Westminster College.  "This is actually a new choir created for this concert.  We are combining the Westminster Concert Choir, the Women's and Men's Choruses, plus some faculty and alumni, giving about 120 voices to the work."

The concert will also be performed Sunday, Feb. 27, at 4 p.m. at the Packard Music Hall  in Warren, Ohio, and Sunday, March 6, at 3 p.m. at the First Presbyterian Church of Edgewood.

The first two concerts will be performed with the Warren Philharmonic Orchestra under the direction of Susan Davenny Wyner, and will include Beethoven's 8th Symphony, as well as Faure's Requiem.  Dr. Anne Bentz, assistant professor of music at Westminster College, will sing the soprano solo in the performances with the orchestra.

The last concert, featuring the Westminster College Concert Choir under the direction of Lind, will be accompanied by Dr. Elizabeth Harrison, Westminster College organist, and will include other selected choral works.
