Posted on Wednesday, May 5, 2010

Dr. R. Tad Greig, Westminster College associate professor of music and director of bands, was selected to participate in the Boulder Conducting Symposium at the University of Colorado in June.

Greig is responsible for preparing three works for wind band and three for chamber band to conduct with the in-house ensemble. The panel of judges will critique the conducting each day.

Judges for the symposium are Allan McMurray, director of bands at the University of Colorado; Dr. Craig Kirchoff, director of wind studies at the University of Minnesota; and internationally-known composer Frank Ticheli.

In addition to his conducting duties, Greig will play trombone with the ensemble of professional musicians and educators.

The symposium, one of the longest-running conducting workshops in the country, is sponsored by the Collegiate Band Directors National Association and the University of Colorado's Department of Music.

Greig, who serves as chair of Westminster's Department of Music, joined the faculty in 1995. He earned an undergraduate degree from Grove City College, master's from Youngstown State University, and Ph.D. from Kent State University.
