Preschool Lab Hosted Parents' Night

Posted on Thursday, April 29, 2010

The Westminster College Preschool Lab hosted Parents' Night April 21.

Families of the preschool students enjoyed Westminster's Outdoor Biology Field Station under the guidance of Dr. Clarence Harms, professor of biology emeritus and director of the Field Station.

Parent co-chairs Alex Julio and Dawnmarie Lunnen planned an evening of earth-friendly activities.

A scavenger hunt through the woods, by the creek, and into the fields yielded outdoor treasures. A group of four- and five-year-old children found more than 30 items, including a worm and skunk cabbage.

Harms led a second group to a field where each family planted a tree that was tagged for easy identification on return visits.

The evening concluded with a bonfire for roasting hot dogs and marshmallows.

The Westminster College Preschool Lab, established in 1990, is a multi-purpose facility that serves the College and the community. Designed by early childhood experts, the laboratory school incorporates innovative curriculum, well-trained staff, developmentally appropriate equipment, and individual attention. Under the direction of Dr. Mandy Medvin, Westminster professor and Gibson-Drinko Distinguished Chair of Psychology, and teachers Deborah Roud and Diana Reed, the preschool is accredited by the National Academy of Early Childhood Programs.
