Bands to Present Spring Concert May 7

Posted on Thursday, April 29, 2010

The Westminster College Symphonic Band and Wind Ensemble will present their "Senior Celebration: Dancing in Air" concert Friday, May 7, at 7:30 p.m. in Orr Auditorium. The concert is free and open to the public.

The Wind Ensemble's program includes Barnes' "Pagan Dances;" "The Solitary Dancer," featuring senior Lynn Rice as the dancer; and Arnold's "Four Scottish Dances"-a slow dance, a lively reel, a Hebridean song, and a lively fling.

The Symphonic Band's selections include "Dancing at Stonehenge;" Goto's "Dancing in Air;" Barber's "Sure in this Shining Night;" and Barnes' "The Old Guard."

Westminster graduate and trumpet instructor Andrew Erb will be the guest conductor for "Where Never Lark or Eagle Flew."

The bands are under the direction of Dr. R. Tad Greig, associate professor, director of bands, and chair of Westminster's Department of Music.

"I continue to be amazed and inspired by the talents of these students," Greig said. "Their enthusiasm toward the creative art of music-making makes each rehearsal a wonderful time of the day."
