Music Majors to Present May 3 Organ Concert

Five Westminster College music majors will present an "Organ Spectacular" Monday, May 3, at 7:30 p.m. in Orr Auditorium. The concert is free and open to the public.

Claudia Brown, a senior sacred music and music education major, is a daughter of Ronald Brown of Pittsburgh and Gaynelle Shepherd of Sierra Vista, Ariz. She is a graduate of North Hills High School.

Amanda Gentzel, a senior sacred music and computer science major, is a daughter of David and Margaret Gentzel of Wexford and a graduate of Pine-Richland High School.

Timothy Lane, a freshman theatre and music major, is a son of Steven and Ellyn Lane of Buffalo, N.Y., and a graduate of Canisius High School.

Jessica Mriso, a senior music education and sacred music major, is a daughter of Randolph and Renee Mriso of Natrona Heights and a graduate of Highlands High School.

Emilie Stuart, a senior music education major, is a daughter of Jerome and Sandra Stuart of Carlisle and a graduate of Carlisle High School.

The students are from the organ studio of Kathryn Miller, Westminster College organist and carilloneur.

The program will feature the contemporary hymn "Here I Am, Lord" sung by Mriso, accompanied by Stuart on flute and Gentzel on organ; "Sim Shalom" ("Grant Us Peace"), a haunting prayer from the Jewish liturgy, sung and played by Mriso; and selections by Bach, Messiaen, Ore, and Walcha. The concert will conclude with an organ duet arrangement of Sousa's "Stars and Stripes Forever" played by Stuart and Gentzel.
