The Westminster College Symphony Orchestra will present its spring concert Thursday, May 6, at 7:30 p.m. in Orr Auditorium. The event is free and open to the public.

Highlights of the concert will be performances by the winners of the aria and concerto competition.

Freshman music performance major Alexandra Patterson, the aria competition winner, will sing "Deh vieni, non tardar" from Mozart's The Marriage of Figaro.

Freshman French and music major Alexander Weil, who won the concerto competition, will be the saxophone soloist in Glazunov's "Saxophone Concerto in e-flat Major."

The program will also include works by Copland, Respighi, Saint-Saëns, and Atwell.

Westminster faculty participating in the orchestra are Dr. David Cushman, professor and chair of Westminster's Department of Economics and Business, on oboe; and Dr. Daniel Perttu, assistant professor of music, on bassoon.

The orchestra is under the direction of Melinda Crawford Perttu, who joined the Westminster faculty in August. She earned an undergraduate degree from Duquesne University and a master's from Ohio State University.
