A delegation of seven Westminster College students won several awards at the Mid-Atlantic Consortium Model United Nations (MACMUN) simulation April 10 at Mercyhurst College in Erie.
The group placed third overall and included:
Sophomore political science major James Beaudry is a son of Holly Beaudry of Fairport, N.Y., and Robert Beaudry and a graduate of Fairport High School.
Sophomore history major Zachary Drylie is a son of Robert and Deanna Drylie of Oakmont and a graduate of Riverview High School.
Sophomore political science major Steven Fawcett is a son of James Fawcett and Carmen Johnson of Wexford and a graduate of Pine-Richland High School.
Senior international politics major Ethan Frey is a son of Nancy Frey of Wilkes-Barre and a graduate of Elmer L. Meyers High School.
Senior international politics major Meredith Smith is a daughter of Craig and Bonnie Smith of Volant and a graduate of Wilmington Area High School.
Sophomore political science major Robert Vavrinak is a son of James and Denise Vavrinak of Hubbard, Ohio, and a graduate of Hubbard High School.
Freshman political science major Leah Wilson is a daughter of John and Barbara Wilson of Wellsville, Ohio, and a graduate of Beaver Local High School.
In addition to the group award, three students earned individual Excellent Delegate Awards: Fawcett, representing Estonia in NATO; Frey, representing China in the Security Council; and Smith, representing Gabon in the Security Council.
MACMUN brought together more than 45 students from colleges in Pennsylvania, New York, and Ohio for a crisis simulation involving the collapse of Pakistan's government. Students represented members of either the U.N. Security Council or NATO's North Atlantic Council and were asked to develop a response to the crisis.
Also attending from Westminster was Dr. Michael Aleprete, assistant professor of political science and adviser to Westminster's Model U.N. group.
