Westminster College's Peace Studies Coffeehouse will host Maaret Viskari for a presentation on refugee resettlement and the International Rescue Committee (IRC) Thursday, April 22, from 4:15-5:30 p.m. in Thompson Clark 314. The event is free and open to the public.
Viskari, a native of Finland, is an IRC representative who has lived in the United States for 16 years. She has worked with refugees, those seeking asylum, victims of human trafficking, battered immigrant women, and other vulnerable immigrant groups.
Prior to moving to New Wilmington, Viskari managed a Winston-Salem, N.C., law office that specialized in immigration law and most recently worked for the IRC resettlement office in Charlottesville, N.C.
The IRC, founded in 1933 at the request of Albert Einstein, responds to the world's worst humanitarian crises and helps people survive and rebuild their lives. Working in 40 countries and 22 U.S. cities, it offers lifesaving care and life-changing assistance to refugees forced to flee from war or disaster.
