Two Westminster College seniors presented capstone research results at the 19th annual Undergraduate Student Research and Creative Accomplishment Conference April 10 at Penn State Erie, The Behrend Campus.
Stephen Rossi, a computer information systems and mathematics major, is a son of Eugene and Eileen Rossi of Oakmont and a graduate of Central Catholic High School. He earned first place in the computer science and mathematics session for his oral presentation on "Developing Genetic Algorithms to Solve the Problem of Data Fitting and Curve Design." His research was supervised by Dr. John Bonomo, Westminster associate professor of computer science.
Amanda Gentzel, a sacred music and computer science major, is a daughter of David and Margaret Gentzel of Wexford and a graduate of Pine-Richland High School. She earned second place in the computer science and mathematics session for her oral presentation on "Exploring the Evolution of Cooperative Behaviors in Multi-Robot Systems." Her research was supervised by Dr. David Shaffer, Westminster associate professor of computer science.
Students representing 10 colleges and universities in western Pennsylvania presented 149 research projects.
