Dr. Joseph Henderson, Westminster professor of education emeritus, will be the featured speaker at Faires Faculty Forum Wednesday, Oct. 7, at 11:40 a.m. in the Sebastian Mueller Theater of the McKelvey Campus Center.
Henderson will be interviewed by Dr. Sandra Webster, Westminster professor of psychology and faculty development officer, on his reasons for endowing the Henderson Lectureship 25 years ago and how he thinks faculty scholarship contributes to a liberal arts education. Other emeriti faculty members are invited as special guests.
Henderson and his wife, Elizabeth, founded the Henderson Lectureship Award to encourage and recognize original and continuing research and scholarship among Westminster College faculty, and to afford the opportunity for faculty to share their learning with the academic community. Henderson served as chair of Westminster's Department of Education and as director of its Graduate Program.
Each year, Westminster faculty members may nominate themselves or others to receive the lectureship, which includes a stipend to support a specific research project. A special faculty committee chooses the winner.
Faculty Forum was established in 1990 by Dr. Barbara Faires, Westminster professor of mathematics emerita, during her term as Dean of the College and Vice President for Academic Affairs. Faculty members from all disciplines volunteer to present lectures on their current research, artistic productions, and/or scholarship of teaching and learning. Each forum presents new ideas with innovative lecture techniques.
