Dr. Donald Kraybill, professor of sociology and religious studies and senior fellow at the Young Center for Anabaptist and Pietist Studies at Elizabethtown College, will speak Tuesday, Sept. 22, at 7:30 p.m. in Wallace Memorial Chapel at Westminster College. The event is free and open to the public.
Kraybill's lecture, "The Riddle of Amish Culture," will be followed by a book sale and signing. Books are also available for purchase in advance at Westminster's bookstore.
Kraybill is the author of more than 20 books and numerous scholarly articles on the Amish and other Anabaptist communities. His recent Amish Grace: How Forgiveness Transcended Tragedy looked at the way the Amish practiced forgiveness after the Nickel Mines school shootings.
His many years of study and expertise make him one of the foremost media spokesmen for news affecting Amish communities. His Westminster talk will focus on how the Amish not only survive, but also thrive in a rapidly changing world.
Kraybill's appearance is sponsored by Westminster's Department of Political Science and Sociology, First Year Program, Peace Studies Program, Office of Diversity Services, Chapel Office, and the Heinz Lecture Series.
