Westminster to Host Musical Duo for Recital and Master Class

Westminster College will host internationally-acclaimed flutist Dr. Andrea Loewy and pianist Dr. Yuling Huang-Davie in "Masterworks for Flute and Piano" recital Tuesday, Sept. 15, at 7:30 p.m. in Wallace Memorial Chapel. The concert is free and open to the public.

Featured in the performance will be "Gloamin," a fantasy for flute and piano composed by Dr. Daniel Perttu, Westminster assistant professor of music.

In addition to the recital, Loewy and Huang-Davie will conduct master classes in flute and piano at 2 p.m. in Patterson Hall.

Loewy is principal flute of the Acadiana Symphony and holds the Heymann II endowed professorship in music at the University of Louisiana at Lafayette, where she recently earned the Distinguished Professor award.

Huang-Davie performs extensively and is a two-time recipient of both the Marion Park Lewis Foundation for the Arts award and the Tallahassee Music Guild Scholarship award.

"We are thrilled to host Dr. Loewy and Dr. Huang-Davie, as they are fantastic performers," Perttu said. "Their appearance will enrich cultural activities on campus and enhance the educational experience of our students."

Perttu, who has been with Westminster since 2008, is the music theory program coordinator. He earned an undergraduate degree from Williams College, two masters from Kent State University, and doctorate from Ohio State University. His compositions have been performed nationally and internationally in arts festivals, concerts, conferences, and solo recitals, and his peer-reviewed articles have been published in three journals.
