Students Receive Scholarships from The Pittsburgh Foundation

Ten Westminster College students recently received scholarships through The Pittsburgh Foundation. All awards will be applied to the students' tuition for the 2009-2010 academic year.

Sara Ergen, a junior public relations major, received the third payment of a $10,000 four-year scholarship funded by the George and Dorothy Knedler Scholarship Fund. Ergen is a daughter of James and Deborah Ergen of McKees Rocks and a graduate of Montour High School.

Christine Moudry, a freshman early childhood education/special education major, received a $1,000 award funded by the Joseph Bullick Scholarship Fund. Moudry is a daughter of Paul Moudry and Nancy Pettengill of Pittsburgh and a graduate of North Allegheny High School.

Two students from New Castle received awards from the Jack Butz Humanitarian Scholarship Fund:

Rebecca Beers, a freshman English major, received a $1,000 scholarship. Beers is a daughter of Edward and Cindy Beers and a graduate of Laurel High School.

Amanda Kendall, a freshman media art major, received a $500 scholarship. Kendall is a daughter of William and Kimberly Kendall and a graduate of Shenango High School.

Three students received $5,323 scholarships from the Ann M. Kendlehart Scholarship Fund. They are:

Wade Grubbs, a sophomore accounting major, is a son of Thomas Grubbs and Sarah Persinger of Chicora and a graduate of Butler Area High School.

Leigha Krivacek, a junior business administration major, is a daughter of Phil and Renee Krivacek of Venetia and a graduate of Peters Township High School.

Neil Pilarski, a senior computer information systems and business administration major, is a son of Patricia Pilarksi of Pittsburgh and the late David Pilarski and a graduate of Shaler Area High School.

Three students received awards from the William J. Wolf Memorial Scholarship Fund

Evan Del Bene, a freshman accounting major, received the first payment of a $12,000 four-year scholarship. Del Bene is a son of Michael and Rosemary Del Bene of Bethel Park and a graduate of Bethel Park High School.

Alyssa Hanna, a sophomore broadcast communications major, received the second payment of a $16,000 four-year scholarship. Hanna is a daughter of Susan Hanna of Allison Park and Mark Hanna of Myrtle Beach, S.C. She is a graduate of Shaler Area High School.

Chloe Stanczak, a freshman early childhood education/special education major, received the first payment of a $12,000 four-year scholarship. Stanczak is a daughter of Richard and Nancy Stanczak of Pittsburgh and a graduate of Shaler Area High School.

Stanczak also received a $575 award from the Charles "Chubby" Brown Memorial Fund.

"We are grateful to The Pittsburgh Foundation and their scholarship funds for their support of bright, motivated students, who represent the future of our region," said Gloria Cagigas, vice president for institutional advancement at Westminster.

The Pittsburgh Foundation is one of the oldest community foundations in the U.S., awarding more than $36.8 million in grants to a vast array of nonprofit organizations, students through scholarships, and medical researchers in 2006. Since 1945, The Pittsburgh Foundation has been connecting its generous donors with the critical needs of the community. Donors who have established funds through the Foundation can support virtually any area of charitable interest.
