Dr. John Bonomo, Westminster College associate professor of computer science, is the author of "You Can Teach an Old Mathematician New Tricks" that was published in the November issue of The College Mathematics Journal.
The article illustrated how mathematics forms the basis for many magic tricks. Bonomo analyzed a well-known card trick and showed how the underlying mathematics allows the trick to be extended in several interesting ways.
The article was the basis for Bonomo's talk at Westminster's Faires Faculty Forum earlier in the semester.
Bonomo, who has been with Westminster since 1998, earned undergraduate and master's degrees from Catholic University and a Ph.D. from Purdue University.
