Lecturer was Speaker at Eudora Welty Dedication

Posted on Thursday, December 4, 2008

Delores Natale, Westminster College lecturer in public relations, was a featured speaker at the unveiling of a bronze statue of author Eudora Welty.

The event marked the opening of "The Commons," an artists' retreat developed around Welty's original home on Congress Street in Jackson, Miss.

"My presentation, 'The Long and Winding Road,' focused on my discovery of Welty's works while teaching my first writing class at Westminster - long after leaving my hometown of Jackson," Natale said.

"While in Jackson, I continued my research at the Mississippi Department of Archives and History, which recently acquired a collection of Welty's correspondence," she added. "Of particular interest was a letter from William Faulkner complimenting Welty on The Robber Bridegroom and a letter from Welty to Danny Kaye asking if he would be interested in starring in a play based on 'The Ponder Heart.'"

Natale, who has been with Westminster since 2001, earned her undergraduate and master's degrees from Westminster.
