Westminster College senior music education majors Emily Burke and Jonathan Nickel will present their senior recital Saturday, Dec. 6, at 2 p.m. in Wallace Memorial Chapel. The concert is free and open to the public.
Burke is a daughter of Dudley and Stephanie Burke of Chardon, Ohio, and a graduate of Chardon High School.
Her portion of the program includes selections from Gaubert, Bach, Griffes, and Kuhlau. She will be assisted by Kathryn Miller, Westminster College organist, on the piano, and by David Tessmer, Westminster adjunct music faculty, on flute for the Kuhlau piece.
She is a member of the Wind Ensemble, Jazz Ensemble, Symphonic Band, Gospel Choir, Titan Marching Band, and serves as president of the Flute Choir. She has performed in the pit orchestra for various area musicals as well as Opera Westminster productions. Burke is an active member of Pennsylvania Collegiate Music Educators Association (PCMEA), New Wilmington Presbyterian Church Youth Club, and treasurer of Mu Phi Epsilon music honor society.
Nickel is a son of Clinton and Debbie Nickel of McKees Rocks and a graduate of Montour High School.
His portion of the program includes works of Arutunian, Bolling, and Vivaldi, and he will be accompanied by Miller. He will be joined by Westminster students J. P. Scanga on string bass and Ryan Kirk on drums for the Bolling piece, which features a jazz combo.
Nickel is a member of the Wind Ensemble, Symphonic Band, Titan Marching Band (vice president and field commander), Orchestra, Brass Quintet, Jazz Ensemble, Concert Choir, Men's Choir, and pit orchestra for Opera Westminster. He has served as president of PCMEA and steward of Mu Phi Epsilon.
He is involved in Mortar Board, Pi Sigma Pi, and Omicron Delta Kappa honor societies; Theta Chi fraternity; and is listed in Who's Who among America's College Students.
