Westminster College to Present Annual Christmas Vespers

Posted on Monday, December 1, 2008

Westminster College will continue a long-standing tradition with the presentation of "The Gifts of Christmas" at Christmas Vespers on Sunday, Dec. 7, at 7 p.m. in Orr Auditorium. The public is invited to attend.

The annual worship service includes music from a variety of vocal and instrumental ensembles; liturgical dancers; Scripture readings; and "Twelve and More," the message from Westminster College Chaplain the Rev. James R. Mohr II.

Additional faculty and staff participating are: Anne Bruening, director of handbell choirs; Robert Cole, coordinator of The French Horns; Father Philip Farrell, rector of St. Camillus Church in New Castle; Perry Gatch, coordinator of the Percussion Ensemble; Dr. R. Tad Greig, coordinator of the Brass Ensemble; Mr. Kris Harper, director of Women's Chorus; James Henderson, director of Gospel Choir; Dr. Robin Lind, director of choral activities; Kathryn Davison Miller, Westminster College organist; David Tessmer, coordinator of The Flute Choir and The Woodwind Quartet; and Gina Sharbaugh, artistic director of Dance Theatre.

Members of the campus chapter of Habitat for Humanity and campus ministry team will provide ushers. Richard Maggazine will provide interpretation for the deaf.

Angel Tree gifts that will be displayed in Orr Lobby were purchased by members of the campus community for children in the Big Brothers/Big Sisters program in Lawrence County, Walker House, and Wilmington Area School District. Members of the Chapel Staff Service Team and Kappa Delta sorority coordinated the effort.

Offerings collected will be used to support the all-campus Habitat for Humanity spring break work trip to Biloxi, Miss., to build homes for those affected by Hurricane Katrina.

The service will be video taped by Westminster broadcast communications students for broadcast throughout the Advent season on Comcast channel 10 and Armstrong channels 72 and 204.

Westminster's Residence Life Staff will provide campus luminaries.

Following the service, the Chapel Staff will host a reception and time of fellowship in Orr Lobby and the Art Gallery, where Habitat's "Doors Around the World" photo exhibit may be viewed.
