Mallory Lichwa, a Westminster College senior biochemistry major, received an undergraduate research grant from Westminster's Drinko Center for Excellence in Teaching and Learning.
Her research, "Forensic Analysis of Fingernail Polish Using Laser Induced Breakdown Spectroscopy: A Preliminary Investigation," was accepted for presentation at the American Chemical Society conference March 8-13 in Chicago.
Lichwa's faculty adviser is Dr. Helen Boylan, Westminster associate professor of chemistry.
Lichwa is a daughter of Michael and Amy Lichwa of West Newton and a graduate of Yough High School.
"An important component of the work of the Drinko Center is to enhance opportunities for undergraduate research," said Dr. Terri Lenox, Westminster College associate professor of computer science and co-director of the Drinko Center. "The Undergraduate Research Initiative provides funding for students to conduct research and to present their research at regional and national conferences."
All grant recipients have the opportunity to participate in Westminster's Undergraduate Research Symposium in April.
