Dr. David Barner, Westminster College professor of broadcast communications, will speak on "All Digital TV - Are You Ready?" at Faires Faculty Forum Wednesday, Nov. 19, at 11:40 a.m. in the Sebastian Mueller Theater in the McKelvey Campus Center.
"Analog TV is old technology and can't produce the high quality pictures and sound that digital TV can," Barner said of the upcoming Feb. 17 nationwide switch to digital. "Analog also uses a lot of the radio spectrum which is now needed for other services such as cell phones and emergency providers. Digital transmission is more efficient."
Barner has been with Westminster since 1981 and is chair of the department of communication studies, theatre, and art. He earned his bachelor's and master's degrees from Shippensburg University, and his doctorate from the University of Pittsburgh.
Faculty Forum was established in 1990 by Dr. Barbara Faires, Westminster professor of mathematics, during her term as Dean of the College and Vice President for Academic Affairs. Faculty members from all disciplines volunteer to present lectures on their current research, artistic productions, and/or scholarship of teaching and learning. Each forum presents new ideas with innovative lecture techniques.
