Four teams of Westminster College students participated in the 11th annual East Central Colleges Undergraduate Mathematics Competition April 5 at Muskingum College in New Concord, Ohio.
Team Converge included Rachael Hayden, Megan Sherry, and Aaron Zavora.
Team Dense members were Larissa Fortna, Lauren Graeser, April Scudere, and Stephen Wheeler.
Team Ideal included Ryan Brolley, Anthony Colwell, and Amanda Gentzel.
Team Kernel members were James Bryan, Andrew Polack, and Stephen Rossi.
Dr. Pamela Richardson, Westminster College assistant professor of mathematics and faculty adviser, accompanied the students.
Students, working in teams, took a three-hour exam that was written by a mathematician at Concordia College (Minn.) specifically for this competition. The exam included 10 problems that ranged from those that nearly everyone should be able to solve to ones that were Putnam level and were designed to single out the most exceptional students. Solutions were submitted for grading but results will not be available for several weeks.
