English Professor to Speak at Faculty Forum

Posted on Thursday, March 27, 2008

Dr. Bethany Hicok, Westminster College associate professor of English, will present "Down the Rabbit Hole: Copyright Law, Scholarly Freedom, and Other Discoveries of a McCandless Year" at Faires Faculty Forum on Wednesday, April 2, at 11:40 a.m. in the Sebastian Mueller Theater in the McKelvey Campus Center.

Hicok received the McCandless Scholar Award last year, which included a stipend for research. Her talk will focus on the challenges faced by scholars who conduct archival research, including issues of fair use and copyright law. She will also cover some collaborative research with students.

Faculty Forum was established in 1990 by Dr. Barbara Faires, Westminster professor of mathematics, during her term as Dean of the College and Vice President for Academic Affairs. Faculty members from all disciplines volunteer to present lectures on their current research, artistic productions, and/or scholarship of teaching and learning. Each forum presents new ideas with innovative lecture techniques.

Hicok, who has been with Westminster since 2001, earned an undergraduate degree from Russell Sage College and masters and Ph.D. from the University of Rochester.
