Biology Professor to Speak at Faculty Forum

Posted on Wednesday, March 19, 2008

Dr. Katherine Robertson, Westminster College assistant professor of biology, will present "Pre-Determined Complexity: Are Our Brains Doing Their Best?" at Faires Faculty Forum on Wednesday, March 26, at 11:40 a.m. in the Sebastian Mueller Theater in the McKelvey Campus Center.

Robertson will present evidence that our brains are already capable of functioning at a higher level than we suspect; that this capability is determined during embryonic development; and that we may actually be unconsciously suppressing some of the skills we possess.

Faculty Forum was established in 1990 by Dr. Barbara Faires, Westminster professor of mathematics, during her term as Dean of the College and Vice President for Academic Affairs. Faculty members from all disciplines volunteer to present lectures on their current research, artistic productions, and/or scholarship of teaching and learning. Each forum presents new ideas with innovative lecture techniques.

Robertson, who has been with Westminster since 2005, earned an undergraduate degree from Paddington College (U.K.) and a master's and Ph.D. from the University of London.
