Music Professor Published in National Journal

Posted on Tuesday, February 26, 2008

The National Federation of State High School Associations (NFHS) will publish "For the New Band Director: Building Your Foundation" by Dr. R. Tad Greig, Westminster College assistant professor of music and director of bands, in the April issue of NFHS News, a national publication that will focus on the arts.

The article was first published in 2005 in the PMEA Journal, a publication of the Pennsylvania Music Educators Association.

The article provides insight for those embarking on their new professional careers, covering teaching philosophy as well as the practical aspects of "Getting Started" and "Establishing Inventories."

"The article combines my philosophy of education as it has developed through 25 years of teaching in both the public schools and at the collegiate level," Greig said. "Much of the information is what I teach in my own Instrumental Methods class."

The NFHS has led the development of education-based interscholastic sports and activities that help students succeed in their lives. They set direction for the future by building awareness and support; improving the participation experience; establishing consistent standards and rules for competition; and helping those who oversee high school sports and activities.

Greig, who has been with Westminster since 1995, earned an undergraduate degree from Grove City College, a master's from Youngstown State University, and Ph.D. from Kent State University.
