Posted on Wednesday, June 27, 2007

Dr. R. Tad Greig, director of instrumental activities and assistant professor of music education at Westminster College, has been named vice president of the state chapter of Phi Beta Mu, the international school bandmaster fraternity.

Membership in the organization involves nomination by a current member with two additional members agreeing to sponsorship, followed by investigation of the candidate's work and its quality over the next two years. Greig was nominated and accepted for this honor in 1999.

The vice president is chosen by the current president with concurrence of the membership. In this position, Greig is responsible for assisting with the annual meeting, including induction of prospective members; maintaining correspondence with chapter alumni; and staying current with news and events of members. He will assume the presidency of the state group at the conclusion of his term as vice president.

Greig, who has been with Westminster since 1995, received his bachelor's in music from Grove City College, his master's from Youngstown State University and his Ph.D. from Kent State University. He is active as a guest conductor, clinician and adjudicator throughout the Eastern United States, and is in demand as a marching band drill designer. He has given lectures and presentations on ensemble rehearsal techniques, literature selection and a variety of topics regarding music education. He is a trombonist with the Youngstown Fine Arts Brass and Westminster College Faculty Brass and a freelance musician in the Youngstown and Pittsburgh areas.
