Dr. Kang-Yup Na, Westminster associate professor of religion, writes a monthly column for the award-winning magazine "Presbyterian Today," which is a national magazine for the Presbyterian Church (USA).
"I was invited to submit a sample of my writing last year," Na said. "After that I was contracted by the magazine to write a Bible Explorations' column for ten issues until August 2007. The column is due three months ahead of actual publication.
"It's a privilege and honor to have been asked to share my biblical interpretation regularly on the national level with the whole denomination. The most difficult part is to transform the complexities and fun of biblical analysis of text into a brief theological reflection that can serve the church within the page-limit given to me by the editor. Usually, I have to shrink a lengthy piece of analysis and theological reasoning into about 1,000 words, which is no easy feat."
The Web version of Na's December column can be found at http://pcusa.org/today/department/bibleexplorations/bibleexplorations.htm. Past columns can be found at http://pcusa.org/today/department/bibleexplorations/contents-betweenlines.htm.
Na, who has been with Westminster since 1998, earned his undergraduate degree from Princeton University, his master's from Princeton Theological Seminary, and his Ph.D. from Emory University.
