Computer Science Professor Presents Paper at Conference

Posted on Monday, December 11, 2006

Dr. Terri Lenox, Westminster College associate professor of computer science, recently presented a paper at the Information Systems Educators Conference (ISECON) in Dallas.

Lenox and her husband, Charles Woratschek of Robert Morris University, presented their paper "Defining CS, IS, and IT: Are we there yet?," which shared the challenge of reconciling differing definitions of the information system field.

"It is important for employers to have some common understanding of the various skills they can expect from graduates of computer science, information systems, and information technology programs," Lenox said. "We developed and distributed an employer survey asking about the courses, certifications, and software proficiencies employers expected graduates in each of the respective disciplines to have completed. We found that employers are confused about the various topics that graduates of these programs can be expected to know."

Lenox also served as the graduate papers co-chair for the ISECON conference. ISECON is sponsored by the Association for Information Technology Professionals and is the largest continuously running conference for information system education.

Lenox, who has been with Westminster since 1999, earned her undergraduate degree from Grove City College, and her master's and Ph.D. from the University of Pittsburgh.
