Sarah Timm, a Westminster College senior music education major, will be performing her capstone vocal recital, Saturday, Dec. 9, at 3 p.m. in Wallace Memorial Chapel. The concert is free and open to the public.
Timm's repertoire includes soprano vocal selections that span centuries. "I am very excited to perform for the campus and community," Timm said. "They will be entertained by a classy recital of opera arias, classical music, jazz, and musical theater styles."
The program includes: Das Veilchen by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart; Villanelle by Hector Berlioz; and Giacomo Puccini's Mi chiamano Mimi. Two featured songs include a new, jazzy duet with her sister, Leah Timm, Boom Boom, titled by songwriting team Marcy Heisler and Zina Goldrich, and a song which includes opera, jazz and musical theater styles titled The Girl in 14G, originally recorded by Kristen Chenoweth, who played Galinda in Wicked.
Timm will be assisted by her brother, junior David Timm and sister, sophomore Leah Timm, both Westminster students and music education majors. J.P. Scanga, a sophomore music education major from Sharpsville, will also be assisting her on string bass. She will be accompanied on piano by Jeff Wachter, a Westminster College adjunct professor.
Timm is a daugther of Robert and Sheri Timm from Saint Marys and is a graduate of Saint Marys Area High School. At Westminster, her activities include being the president of Student Westminster Admissions Team, Chamber Singers, Concert Choir, Sigma Kappa Sorority, Student Alumni Association, Campus Programming Council, Mortar Board, Dance Theater, Mu Phi Epsilon, Pi Sigma Pi, Alpha Psi Omega, Omicron Delta Kappa, Theatre Westminster, Fresh Start leader, American Choral Directors Association, Pennsylvania Collegiate Music Educators Association, and the president and originator of the new American Red Cross Campus Organization and Disaster Team.
She is currently contending in local pageants for the Miss Pennsylvania of America scholarship organization, hoping to compete for the title of Miss Pennsylvania in June.
