Two Seniors to Perform Recital Dec. 2

Two Westminster College students will perform their capstone recitals Saturday, Dec. 2, at 1 p.m. in Wallace Memorial Chapel. The event is free and open to the public.

Rachel Hammond, a daughter of Wayne and Theresa Hammond, Pittsburgh, is a senior music major and a graduate of Northgate High School. While at Westminster, she performed with the Concert Choir; played accompaniment for the Chamber Singers; served as student director and private piano teacher for the Music Intern Teaching Program; and was rehearsal and show pianist for the musical production of Guys and Dolls and the chapel drama, Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat. Hammond is president of Pi Sigma Pi, and a member of Omicron Delta Kappa, Mortar Board and Pi Sigma Alpha, which are academic honor societies. She is also president of the Newman Club, a Catholic fellowship group, and serves as an accompanist for Catholic Mass on campus. She is a two-year member of the Fresh Start staff and a sister of the Kappa Delta sorority. Hammond has served as president and vice president for the American Choral Directors Association, president of the international music fraternity Mu Phi Epsilon, and a member of the Pennsylvania Collegiate Music Educators Association.

Her program includes: "Suite Espanola, Op. 47, No. 5" by Isaac Albeniz; "Piano Sonata No. 3" by Norman Dello Joio; "Sonata for the Left Hand, Op. 43" by Sergei Rachmaninoff; and "Maple Leaf Rag" by Scott Joplin.

Katherine Menhorn, a daughter of Norman and Joan Menhorn, Berlin, is a senior music education major and a graduate of Berlin Brothersvalley High School. While at Westminster, Menhorn has sung in the Chamber Singers and Concert Choir, where she serves as president; is the drum major of the Titan Marching Band; has been an accompanist for the Men's Choir; plays in the Symphonic Band; participates in the College Handbell Choir; and teaches private lessons as part of the Intern Program. She is a member of Omicron Delta Kappa, Mortar Board, Lambda Sigma, and Pi Sigma Pi, which are academic honor societies. She is a sister of the Sigma Kappa sorority; recognized as a Dean's List scholar; and serves as a resident assistant.

Her program includes: "Esurientes implevit bonis" by Johann Sebastian Bach; "Laudate Domino" by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart; "Die Forelle" by Franz Schubert; "Widmung" by Robert Schumann; "Dein Blaues Auge" by Johannes Brahms; "Faites-lui mes aveux" by Charles Ground; "Apres un reve" by Gabriel Faure; "Io sono la madre" by Ottorino Respighi; "Desire for Hermitage" and "Sleep Now" by Samuel Barber; and "I'd Give It All for You" by Jason Robert Brown, in a duet with Westminster alumnus Douglas Spiri singing baritone.

Hammond and Menhorn will together perform "Pie Jesu" by Andrew Lloyd Weber and "The Lone Ar-ranger 2" by Philip Buttall.
