The Westminster College Concert Choir and Chamber Singers will present a fall concert Sunday, Nov. 19, at 3 p.m. in Wallace Memorial Chapel.
"The Concert Choir will be singing the same music that they will be performing in the Spain Music Tour,'" said Dr. Robin Lind, Westminster director of choral activities. "From Dec. 28 through Jan. 10, the Concert Choir and Wind Ensemble are traveling to Spain, with stops in Granada, Cordoba, Jaen, Rondo, and New Year's in Seville."
Craig Dressler, a junior religion major from Erie, will accompany the choirs on the piano. The Concert Choir program includes: "Sleep" by Eric Whitacre; "A Hymn to the Virgin" by Benjamin Britten; "Alleluia" by Libby Larsen; "Esto les digo" by Kinley Lange; Dressler will play the organ for "Magnificat" by Charles Villiers Stanford; "O Magnum Mysterium" by Morten Lauridsen; "Make a Joyful Noise Unto the Lord" by Kirke Mechem; "The Glory of the Father" by Egil Hovland; "Hacia belen va un borrico," a traditional Spanish Christmas carol with a solo by Ian Turner, a sophomore music education major from Grove City. The choir will conclude with three selections by American composer Aaron Copland: "Sing ye Praises," "At the River," and "Ching-a-Ring Chaw."
The Chamber Singers will be singing: "How Long" by Lois Hopkins, Westminster College retired adjunct music instructor; "I know I've Been Changed" with solos by Marie Gott, a senior music education major from Erie, and A. J. Fikejs, a junior business administration major from Valencia, Calif.; "Come and Walk with Me" by Eleanor Daley; "The Coolin'" by Samuel Barber; "Sweet Betsy" arranged by John David Earnest for chorus and four-hand piano with Rachel Hammond, a senior music major from Pittsburgh, and Sheila Barnhart, a junior music performance major from New Freeport; and ending with two popular pieces: "Up the Ladder to the Roof " arranged by Mark Brymer and "I've Got You Under My Skin" arranged by Phil Mattson with Hammond on the piano and J. P. Scanga, a sophomore music education major from Sharpsville, on the electric bass.
