Westminster Faculty Forum Continues

Posted on Tuesday, February 19, 2002

Dr. Helen M. Boylan, assistant professor of chemistry at Westminster College, will present "Microwaves Aren't Just for Cooking" at Faculty Forum Wednesday, Feb. 27, at 11:45 a.m. in Patterson Hall room 311.

"The microwave is a common commercial appliance, and nearly every kitchen in the United States is equipped with one," said Boylan.  "What is not common knowledge is the history behind the development of the microwave and how the microwave heats."

Boylan will demonstrate how the Chemistry Department at Westminster College uses the newly obtained laboratory microwave for education and research to explore microwave-enhanced chemistry.

Boylan, who came to Westminster in 2001, earned her undergraduate degree from Westminster College and her Ph.D. from Duquesne University.

The event is free and open to the public.  For more information, contact Boylan at (724) 946-6293 or e-mail botlanhm@westminster.edu.
