Twelve teams advanced to the state competition Friday, April 25, at Juniata College.
The top six teams in the junior high category were first place Kane Area Middle School, followed by Shady Side Academy Middle School, Indiana Junior High School, DuBois Area Middle School, and Ford City Junior High School.
Kane Area High School won the high school category, followed by Clarion Area High School, DuBois Area High School, Franklin Area High School, Warren Area High School, Montour High School, and North East High School.
The Science Olympiad is an international non-profit organization devoted to improving the quality of science education, increasing student interest in science, and providing recognition for outstanding achievement in science education by both teachers and students. The Science Olympiad tournaments are rigorous academic interscholastic competitions that consist of a series of individual and team events, which students prepare during the year.
