"The popularity of Christmas Vespers and last year's Palm Sunday/Easter Vesper Service shows that the Westminster and New Wilmington communities appreciate the opportunity to worship together during the Christian Church's most sacred holy days," said the Rev. Steve Allen, chaplain at Westminster College. "The service will include a variety of readings and music that follow the holy week from Palm Sunday through Easter."
"The program includes music from spirituals, to old hymns like "When I Survey the Wondrous Cross," to the more contemporary "Rejoice" by Kirke Mechem, said Dr. Robin Lind, director of choral activities at Westminster College.
The Chamber Singers and Concert choirs will also perform "Lord of the Dance," "Tribulationes," "Liberty Hall," "Morn's Roseate Hues," "An Anthem for Easter," and "Praise his Holy Name." The choirs will be accompanied by Dr. Elizabeth Harrison, college organist; Ashley Rexrode, a sophomore music education major from Farmington; and Jaimee Davis, a freshman music performance major from Warren, Ohio. Solos will be performed by Sean Taylor, a junior music education major from Brookville, and Stacy Zak, a senior elementary education major from Ambridge.
The event is free and open to the public. For more information, contact Allen at (724) 946-7114 or e-mail allensm@westminster.edu.
