Westminster Non-Traditional Students Active in Student Activities

Posted on Tuesday, April 8, 2003

Several of Westminster College's non-traditional students are active in campus activities.

Earlier this month four Westminster College Lifelong Learning students, George Austin, Brano Cikel, Laurie Duffee, and Debra Sanchez, combined to form one of the student bowling teams to benefit Big Brothers/Big Sisters.

"Our scores weren't very high, but it was a lot of fun and for a good cause," said Sanchez.  "Being involved in campus activities is part of being students, no matter what the age."

Lifelong Learning students have also formed a Relay for Life team, sponsored by Westminster fraternity Alpha Sigma Phi, to benefit cancer research.  Brano Cikel, Sandy Davis, Laurie Duffee, John Edmiston, Katie Edmiston, Mary Jo Evanoff, Leisa Fobes, JoAnn Lewis, Debra Sanchez, and Diane Ubry will walk around Bury Track from 10 a.m.-10 p.m. Saturday, April 12.  They are also sponsoring a Chinese Auction with gift certificates from local business, and a bakesale to benefit the Cancer Society.

Westminster's Lifelong Learning Program is an undergraduate program designed especially for non-traditional students who may take classes during the day, evening, or a combination of both.  A majority of students choose an accelerated evening program that offers the ability to custom design schedules by taking nine-week courses that meet once a week.  This unique work plan provides flexibility to balance an academic program with work and home responsibilities.  A six-week summer session also includes both day and evening classes.
