"The PRSSA's goal is not only to promote benefits of organ donation, but also to encourage people to communicate with family members about the matter," said Kaitlyn Clark, freshman public relations major from Hiller and chair of the organ donation committee. "Not many people know about the fact that the family of patients intending to donate their organs can actually override their decision, but it is true. This is why communication within each family is very important."
The PRSSA set up a similar booth at the Relay for Life earlier this month, where organ donation cards, pens, buttons and informational pamphlets were distributed.
"Spring Honors Convocation gives us a chance not only to reach the students, but the families as well," said Melissa Logan, junior public relations major from Mount Pleasant and president-elect of the PRSSA. "Our specific goal is to promote communication within each specific family to promote organ donation."
