Westminster Psychology Professor Coordinates Mounted Archery Training School

Posted on Wednesday, January 29, 2003

Dr. David Gray, professor of psychology at Westminster College, recently coordinated the mounted archery training school at the Third International Horseback Archery Festival in Fort Dodge, Iowa.

"Representatives from the eastern and western hemispheres meet to exchange traditions, history, and performances at this festival," said Gray. "This year, one of the major goals of the festival was to prepare a major mounted archery demonstration at the 2008 Olympics in Beijing."

Gray also gave a presentation at the festival on the "Roots of the Magyars," which traced the roots of the formation of the Hungarian nation in the 800s, with an emphasis on the ancient nomadic horse cultures.

"Hungary is singled out because the founder and leading master of the modern discipline of mounted archery is Hungarian," said Gray.

Gray, who has been with Westminster College since 1965, earned his undergraduate degree from Westminster College, his master's from the Pittsburgh Theological Seminary, and his Ph.D from the University of Pittsburgh.
