Erin Halpin, a junior speech communication major from White Oak, was recently elected vice president of Lambda Pi Eta, which is the official communication studies honor society of the National Communication Association (NCA).
Halpin will serve as vice president for the 367 chapters worldwide. "My duties will include working with the newly elected president to continue to strengthen the organization as a national force and as a forum for undergraduate scholarship," said Halpin. "My goals include strengthening the presence of the chapters at liberal arts colleges, and to help bridge communication between chapters across the globe."
The goals of the organization are to recognize, foster, and reward scholastic achievement; stimulate interest in the field of communication; promote and encourage professional development among communication majors; provide an opportunity to discuss and exchange ideas about the field; establishment and maintain close relationships and understanding between faculty and students; and explore options for further graduate studies.
Halpin is a daughter of Michael and Christine Halpin, 1616 Fawcett Ave., and a graduate of McKeesport Area High School. At Westminster, Halpin is the captain-elect of the Westminster Speech and Debate Team; member of the Omicron Delta Kappa, a national leadership society; member of the Zeta Tau Alpha, a national sorority; public relations chair for an executive slate of Student Government nominees; and media library manager of the Westminster Audio Visual Services.
