Westminster Faculty Present "Songs About the Sea" Recital

Posted on Tuesday, February 11, 2003

Susan Shafer, artist in residence at Westminster College, will perform Sunday, Feb. 16, at 3 p.m. in Wallace Memorial Chapel.

Shafer is one of the leading Mezzo-Contraltos singing today. She has performed in concert and opera throughout North America, Europe, and Russia. Highlights of her career include winning the Pavarotti Competition, after which she sang with Luciano in Bologna and Paris, and with Domingo in France and Spain.

The program includes "Sea Slumber Song," "In Haven," "Sabbath Morning at Sea," "Where Corals Lie," "The Swimmer," "Blow, Ye Winds," "Across the Western Ocean," "Shenandoah," and others.

Shafer will be accompanied by pianist Russell Miller, faculty member at the Eastman School of Music. Providing commentary on the recital is Dr. Fritz Horn, faculty development office and director of off-campus study at Westminster College.

"Fritz provided commentary on our last recital," said Shafer. "It had such a positive response, we decided to do it again."
