The Westminster College Wind Ensemble will perform in concert Friday, Feb. 21, at 7:30 p.m. in Orr Auditorium.

The ensemble will play a challenging concert showcasing a wide array of composers and compositional styles, including works by Kabalevsky, Persichetti, Holst, Ginastera, and Techeli.

"Everything from transcriptions of orchestral works to benchmark pieces to contemporary pieces will be performed," said R. Tad Greig, director of bands at Westminster College. "It's important that our musicians develop an understanding of a variety of literature that is out there."

"The Wind Ensemble is a group chosen through audition, and is comprised of the minimal amount of musicians necessary to perform full concert literature," continued Greig. "Being an ensemble such as this places a great deal of pressure on the musicians because they may well be the only person playing a given part. We've worked hard to prepare this concert, and we will enjoy the opportunity of sharing this wonderful music."

The event is free and open to the public. For more information, contact Greig at (724) 946-7279 or e-mail greigrt@westminster.edu.
