Seven Westminster College Band members were chosen to participate in the 56th annual Pennsylvania Intercollegiate Honors Band, Sunday, March 2, at Mansfield University.
"The honors ensemble is comprised of the finest instrumentalists from colleges and universities across the state," said R. Tad Greig, director of bands at Westminster College. "To be a successful musician, you must be able to work with others and read other conductors. This is an excellent opportunity for students to gain that experience."
Students are mailed the music for the concert and are expected to know it before they arrive. After a one-hour rehearsal with the conductor, the process of auditioning for chair placement begins.
"This is an important experience for musicians," said Greig. "When it comes to auditioning, it doesn't matter what school you're from. What matters is how well prepared you are and how you can control your nerves that dictates chair placement. This process is the difference between being employed or not. I'm very proud of where Westminster musicians have placed in the past."
Greig, who has been with Westminster College since 1995, earned his undergraduate degree from Grove City College, and his master's from Youngstown State University.
